What potters should know

More predictable than raw oxides and often stable to cone 10. Inclusion (encapsulated) stains give reds and oranges from cadmium locked in zirconium; do not ball-mill them, and test food surfaces.

Handling and safety

Dry ceramic materials generate respirable silica dust. Use a NIOSH-approved N95 or P100 respirator and adequate ventilation when mixing dry, and wet-clean surfaces.
